25-Feb-2019

I did research and a lot of thinking based on input from a few of you.

There are TWO exams for Wednesday. They are similar (I cannot see them, they're not mine, so I cannot say how similar they are).

Here are your options:

  1. If you want a shot at the scholarship, take the Fall exam. Those who have taken it before (in Personal Finance) may not choose this option.
  2. Take the Spring exam.

YES, I know the in-class was quite rushed, but you have had:

  • Suspension of Econ since Ch 26 test
  • ~8 hrs of EverFi
  • Access to copious resources, including practice tests and a detailed course/exam outline for a while
  • Access to extra help on several occasions

You can decide when you enter class on Wednesday.

21-Feb-2019

21Feb: Start Personal Finance; Themes 1, 2;
           practice tests/prep time

22Feb: Themes 3, 4, 5; practice tests/prep time

25Feb: Themes 6, 7, 8, 9; practice tests/prep time

26Feb: NO CLASS; prep for test tomorrow

27Feb: Financial Literacy Test!

28Feb: Ch 26 post-mortem (FinLit makeups after school; no
extensions as the window closes today - out of my control)

20-Feb-2019

I am considering offering a "makeup" exam for Ch 26. If you are interested, see me in person (and I don't mean a 30-second drive-by "conversation" in the hallway OR during class) and make your case by Friday at 2pm.

HW: Complete the 1st two bullet points under the 19-Feb entry below. Two Remind texts sent to check this page.

19-Feb-2019

As previously mentioned, we will now pause to complete the financial literacy component of the course.

  • Visit the Personal Finance Final Exam Prep Page.
  • Read the entire page.
  • Start taking the practice tests. Some class time will be given, but you should do this outside of class as well. Most are quite brief.
  • If/when you identify a "trouble spot", visit the Personal Finance Resources page to address it. You may also revisit EverFi or your own resources.
  • Exam the two documents ("Key Documents"); we will use the longer one as a guide for class discussion.
  • An exam date will be announced but is TENTATIVELY Feb 27th.
  • Exam will tentatively count as a test score for MP3.

Chapter 1 test

07-Sep-2018

Homework

  1. Read at least first 1/3 of Chapter 1, take copious notes, and begin relevant parts/questions in Study Guide.
  2. Take a while and start poking around Resources page to identify resources that work for you (this may change as the course progresses). There's lots to choose from! Jacob Clifford is a must.
  3. Talk to parents about college credit for this class. Details on MCC page.
  4. If at least 20 of you agree to purchase Jacob Clifford's Ultimate Review Packet (which covers Macro and Micro, so you can take it to college and get even more mileage out of it), the $12 retail price drops to $7 (under a buck a month). It's a monster, 108-page document and highly recommended.

EVERYONE please complete this form (will take 23 seconds) so I know who's in. I'd like to place the order by Friday, Sept 15th, so just bring in $7 (exact, please, and no coin) and I'll take care of the rest. If total is under 20 people, the price is $12/copy, still a bargain at ten cents per class ($12.00/120 classes = $0.10).

The 108 page Ultimate Review Packet will help you review all the key concepts and graphs of micro and macroeconomics.

- NEW! 240 multiple choice questions with video answers for each question. That's four full practice AP exams!

- Video Support! The packet gives you access to all my Unit Summary videos, multiple choice practice videos, and free response videos. Just follow the link on the cover.

- All the Essentials! The packet is organized by unit so you can learn and practice in smaller chunks

- Clear and Concise! Covers the entire course, top to bottom

Interactive! The packet goes hand-in-hand with my videos and includes guided practices questions covering key concepts

05-Sep-2018

First assignments of the course - an easy way to start things off on a positive note. The first TWO below are GRADED and due no later than 9pm TONIGHT.

1) Install FREE Remind app, set up account (if you don't have one yet), and join the correct class: @phsecon19. Should take 1 minute (if you already have the app) to 5 mins (if you have to start from scratch).

NOTE: The Remind app is quicker, has more features, and is more reliable than text. Sometimes extra credit "specials" are sent via Remind so failure to check can cost you points. Recommended: set notifications to persistent. If this doesn't work for you, text the code for your class (including the @) to 81010 or

908-923-0935. Please use your real/full name to ensure you receive credit.

2) Complete this Google form/survey. Should take about 5 minutes.

3) Review course syllabus with parent/guardian so everyone knows what's expected. If you have questions, ask via Remind or the next time you see me in person.

4) The District/School will require that you sign something indicating you have read the Student Handbook. The link to the latest version of this document is herebe sure to read the 2nd bullet point at the bottom of page 26.
